Signal:

A Signal is a single valued function of one or more variables that conveys some information. Signals are represented mathematically as functions of one or more independent variables.

Types of Signals:

  • Continuous Time Signals
  • Discrete Time Signals
  • Periodic Signals
  • Even Signals
  • Odd Signals
  • Energy Signals and Power Signals
  • Deterministic and Random Signals
  • One Directional and Multi-directional Signals

Representation of Signals:

(a) Continuous Time Signals

Continuous time signal are specified for all values of time.

(b) Discrete Time Signals

A discrete time signals is sequence of numbers. These numbers are assumed to occurring at regular intervals of T seconds. The nth sample of a discrete time signal is generally denoted by x [nT] or simply x [n].
